Embracing Cultural Richness and Life Lessons on Our European Sojourn

I am thrilled to share the enriching experience my spouse and I had during our recent travel to Germany, where family ties and unexpected adventures intertwined seamlessly.

Our journey took us through the picturesque landscapes of neighboring countries like Austria and the Czech Republic, offering a blend of captivating sightseeing, historical exploration, and glimpses into local manufacturing. What began as a family gathering evolved into a cultural odyssey, revealing the beauty of diverse traditions.

Coinciding with the Bengali Durga Puja days, our travels led us to Prague and Erlangen in Germany, where we encountered a vibrant community of Indians, predominantly Bengalis, celebrating their festival with passion and dedication on foreign soil.

In Prague, “Durgotsav Prague 2023” unfolded at Kamýcká 1069, an event that showcased the resilience of tradition beyond geographical boundaries. Meeting an alumnus of the Bose Institute, Kolkata, pursuing a post-doctorate in anti-cancer remedial solutions at Charles University, Prague, was inspiring. His commitment to upholding Durga Puja traditions in a foreign land was truly commendable.

Erlangen, Germany offered another gem in Mr. Dipankar Sarkar, a Puja Committee member and craftsman. His dedication to personally crafting clay idols for over five months, alongside his daily routine, showcased the power of persistence and passion. From shaping the clay to intricate ornamentation, his commitment was a testament to the importance of pursuing one’s passion.

Reflecting on these experiences, I want to share a few simple, yet profound learnings:

  1. Finding One’s IKIGAI: The importance of discovering “reason for living” by exploring one’s passions and turning them into a fulfilling career. Starting with one’s hobbies and talents—they might hold the key to true calling!
  2. Energy and Persistence Conquer All: Once one has identified one’s ikigai, energy should be channelled towards building it. Even if one’s passion remains a hobby, one must make time for it amidst busy schedules. Persistence is inevitably the key to success!
  3. Working Towards One’s Goals Selflessly: One must aim to achieve one’s goals without expecting immediate rewards. The journey itself is valuable, and selfless dedication often yields the most rewarding results!

As I embark upon applying these principles to my passion for traveling, connecting, and helping others grow, I hope my personal journey serves as inspiration for others.

Cheers to embracing cultural richness, lifelong learning, and the pursuit of our passions!
